Bust of Martha Washington 1731 – 1802 was the wife of George Washington, the first President of the United States. Although the title was not coined until after her death, Martha Washington served as the inaugural First Lady of the United States. During her lifetime she was often referred to as “Lady Washington”. Engraved by Charles Burt from the Charles François Jalabert painting. A handsome example of this popular variety, large brown Treasury Seal. Vertically signed by James Nelson Huston – Treasurer of the United States 1889-91. Huston autographs are fairly scarce and not often seen on this particular type.
